2017 Gaita Santa Barbara County Tempranillo
A chef's dream, with endless food pairing possibilities. 100% Tempranillo from the Los Alamos Valley in Santa Barbara County. The cooler climate is just perfect for the grape, allowing it to harvest late with tons of rich velvety fruit, complexity galore, and a silky polished tannin structure, the perfect combination!
As soon as you pour it the super deep purple color tells you this a big, bold expression of Tempranillo. The nose is amazing, all kinds of sweet black cherry jam, vanilla, and cigar box, together with hints of new leather and smoky herbs as the wine opens up. The palate grabs you with a rich luscious mouthfeel and gobs of spicy blackberry beautifully framed by hints of vanilla and oak. The finish stays rich and juicy and the smooth, polished tannin is submerged under more decadent flavors of dried fig and cherry skins. The big flavors are 100% California but the complexity and balance definitely speak to the classic beauty of Tempranillo.
